India Amruthavarshini Estate Selection 9 Natural
After founding a boarding school in the coffee-growing region Chikmagalur, former banker Poornima Jairaj purchased the Amruthavarshini Farm in 2004. Since then, she’s been running the estate with her daughter Tanya.
Like many producers in the area, Poornima grows both arabica and robusta (canephora), with arabica making up 70% of her production. Growing at around 1100 MASL, her coffee plants are frequently interspersed with fruit and native trees.
With the help of coffee quality expert Sunalini Menon, the quality in Amruthavarshini’s lots are quickly evident. What stands out in both her arabica and robusta lots are their cleanness and articulation.
Selection 9 is a prized Indian variety that crosses the Ethiopian heirloom variety Tafarikela with Timor hybrid. The Ethiopian genetics provides finesse while its part-robusta provenance affords hardiness. Sweet and rounded, with orange fruit impressions (tangerine & apricot).
